Join us for a group paddle, lunch, and hike at the Caney Creek Campground on Saturday, October 23, 2021 (Rain Out Date October 30, 2021). We encourage you to be prepared to launch around 9:00 am.
This permitted event allows kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing enthusiasts to connect as a community in a safe and responsible way. Please be sure to register for this event as information on routes, safety, liability, weather updates, and other important details will be emailed before the event.
Launch Points: There are two possible start point locations for this paddle:
Roane County Park: 3515 Roane State Hwy, Harriman
Caney Creek Recreation Area: 3949 Roane State Hwy, Harriman
Our more intrepid paddlers can park and launch their own kayaks at the Roane County Park launch located at 3515 Roane State Hwy. in Harriman and explore the two (2) miles of shoreline while proceeding to the Caney Creek Recreation Area, then, if they wish, divert up Caney Creek a mile or so. There will be brunch/lunch items available and an opportunity to hike some newly developed trail within the Recreation Area.
If you would like a shorter paddle, you can borrow one of the Tennessee RiverLine 652 kayaks at the Event Center at the Caney Creek Recreation Area located at 3949 Roane State Hwy. in Harriman and explore the surrounding waterfront. This area is an ideal location for learning to paddle. If all kayaks are being used, you can hike and refresh while you wait. Parking is limited. Boat use will be limited to an hour if others are waiting.
We encourage you to pack a water bottle to start. Refills will be available at the Recreation Area.
In the event of forecasted weather creating unsafe conditions, this event will be rescheduled for Saturday, October 30, 2021. A post will be shared on social media, and an email will be sent to participants notifying them.
This event has been organized by Roane County’s Tennessee RiverLine 652 Leadership Team in partnership with the Roane County Visitor's Bureau and Roane County Government.
