We are partnering with The Water Quality Forum on their 6th Annual “Cheers to Clean Water: Tennessee River Paddle-Off Cleanup” event in Knoxville, TN. The Water Quality Forum is a diverse coalition working towards keeping our East Tennessee waterways clean through educational outreach sessions, outdoor activities that build a relationship with nature, and much more.
Come float down a portion of the Tennessee River with us, removing litter and taking in the scenic views of downtown Knoxville. We will focus our efforts on the shorelines where larger boats cannot easily get to the accumulated debris. The cleanup will start from the Ijams Nature Center boat launch and go down stream ending at the Knoxville Adventure Collective's boat dock at the Treaty of Holston Park. Those interested in participating may bring their own boat or sign up to borrow a boat provided by both the Tennessee RiverLine and by Ijams Nature Center. We have 20 single kayaks and 4 tandem kayaks available to borrow (28 seats in total).
Participants will be sent an email prior to the cleanup that includes the parking/shuttle details as well as other pertinent details for the day-of. We ask that you please arrive at the Treaty of Holston Park by 9:30 a.m. on 6/8/24 to give enough time for signing in, shuttling to the launch, and get your boat on the water.
There will be no race component at our event this year and it will solely be a litter cleanup. Feel free to contact Mread@Knoxvilletn.gov with any questions.
