Hardin Co., TN Hiking Event

  • Shiloh Indian Mounds (map)

Please join us the morning of Saturday, August 20th from 9:00-11:00 AM for an Animation event in Hardin County! This will be a ranger-led interpretive hike at Shiloh Battlefield of the Shiloh Indian Mounds, in celebration of our nation’s diversified history.

Within its boundaries, Shiloh National Military Park contains one of the most important archaeological sites in the Lower Tennessee Valley, the Shiloh Indian Mounds National Historic Landmark. The program will focus on the past archaeological work at the site as well as several aspects of daily life at the Shiloh Mound village in 1250 AD. The interpretive hike will explore Native American life, such as how the people defended themselves, what food items they hunted and gathered, and why they built the mounds.

Anyone interested in participating in the two-hour hike is invited to register in advance by calling the park at 731-689-5696. Participants should meet the ranger at the Indian Mound Shelter at 9:00 am. The terrain will be moderate and hikers should bring water and wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather. Severe weather will cancel the program.

For more information on this and other park events please contact the park visitor center at 731-689-5696, go to the park website at www.nps.gov/shil, or find us on Facebook at facebook.com/ShilohNMP.
