In June 2025, Paddle Georgia will commemorate its 20th anniversary with a unique canoe and kayak journey traversing Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. This week-long adventure will bring over 300 paddlers to explore the Tennessee River basin, with the final five days highlighting the Tennessee RiverLine.
The expedition begins in Ringgold, Georgia, navigating the South Chickamauga Creek Water Trail, known for its limestone bluffs and playful rapids. Paddlers will then merge onto the Tennessee River, journeying through Chattanooga's historic gorge into Nickajack Lake, and concluding in Northeast Alabama. Along the way, participants will encounter iconic landmarks such as Lookout Mountain, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Tennessee Aquarium.
This event exemplifies the Tennessee RiverLine's mission to connect communities and celebrate the river's natural beauty and cultural heritage. Brad Collett, Executive Director of the Tennessee RiverLine, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We are thrilled to partner with Paddle Georgia on their 20th anniversary event. This journey exemplifies our shared commitment to connecting people with the river, fostering environmental stewardship, and celebrating the natural and cultural heritage of the Tennessee River Valley."
Since 2005, Paddle Georgia has engaged over 7,000 participants and raised more than $900,000 for river protection and water trail development. Registration for the 2025 event opens in early February, offering options for the full seven-day journey or shorter segments. For more information, visit Georgia River Network's Paddle Georgia page.
The Tennessee RiverLine invites communities and paddling enthusiasts to join in this celebration of regional rivers, fostering connections that enhance public health, environmental stewardship, and economic vitality along the Tennessee River corridor.
